How to Use Your SnoutCover:

Complete Guide

Congratulations on taking this important step to protect your dog's nose! This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to ensure SnoutCover works effectively and comfortably for your dog.

What You'll Need

  • Your SnoutCover (Small or Large size)

  • Treats for positive reinforcement

  • Patience and a calm environment

Understanding the Design

SnoutCover features:

  • TPU main body – Flexible, durable, and skin-safe

  • Top-only coverage allows eating and drinking

  • Adjustable strap system for custom fit

Introducing SnoutCover to Your Dog

Never force the SnoutCover on your dog. Success comes from positive association and patience.

Day 1–2: Visual Introduction

Goal: Let your dog investigate without pressure

  • Place SnoutCover on the floor near your dog

  • Let them sniff and examine it

  • Reward curiosity with treats and praise

  • Don't try to put it on yet

Day 3–4: Touch Association

Goal: Associate SnoutCover with positive experiences

  • Hold near your dog's face (don't put it on)

  • Give treats and affection

  • Gently touch it to their nose for 1–2 seconds

  • Immediately reward

  • Repeat 5–6 times per session, 2–3 sessions per day

Day 5–7: First Fitting Attempts

Goal: Get SnoutCover on for very short periods

  1. Choose a calm time when your dog is relaxed

  2. Have high-value treats ready

  3. Gently place over nose for 3–5 seconds (don't buckle yet)

  4. Remove immediately and reward enthusiastically

  5. Gradually increase duration

  6. Buckle the straps once comfortable with the nose piece

Achieving the Perfect Fit

Proper Positioning

SnoutCover should rest comfortably on the top of the nose

Strap placement:

  • Main strap: Adjust with the same tightness as your dog's collar

  • Side straps: Fit loosely, with their collar fasteners located evenly on the sides of the dog's face

  • Side straps should not allow you to pull and remove the SnoutCover from the front

  • The key balance: Loose enough not to pull the dog's nose, but tight enough that the cover won't fall off (either by accident or if your dog tries to remove it)

Adjusting for Comfort

Too loose

Too tight

Just right

  • SnoutCover shifts or moves during normal activity

  • Dog can easily rub it off

  • Leaves marks on fur or skin after removal

  • Dog is constantly trying to remove it

  • Restricts normal head movement

  • Can cause discomfort or pain

  • Stays in place during normal activity (walking, playing)

  • Your dog can ignore it after initial adjustment period

  • You can fit one finger between strap and fur

  • No marks visible when removed after use

  • Proper ventilation maintained throughout wear

Building Tolerance

Week 1: Short Sessions

Week 2: Normal Duration

Week 3+: Full Usage

  • Wear for 10–15 minutes, 2–3 times daily

  • Always during positive activities (treats, calm petting)

  • Remove before your dog gets frustrated

  • Increase to 30–60 minutes

  • Wear during regular activities (short walks)

  • Continue positive reinforcement

  • Wear for full outdoor sessions

  • Your dog should largely ignore it

  • Only remove for indoor time when UV protection isn't needed

When to Use SnoutCover - Daily Use Best Practices

Always use

Can remove

  • Outdoor time during daylight hours

  • Any sun exposure

  • After applying medication (prevents licking)

  • During walks, playtime, or yard time

  • During mealtimes (though designed to allow eating)

  • At night when sleeping

Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Wash with mid-warm water

  • Mild soap if needed

  • Pat dry with clean towel

  • Check for any damage or wear

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Dog Keeps Pawing It Off

SnoutCover Keeps Slipping

Rubbing or Irritation

Dog Refuses to Move

  • Distract with treats or toys

  • Make sure it's not too tight

  • Be patient – most dogs adapt within a week

  • Adjust straps tighter

  • Check positioning on nose

  • May need different size

  • Loosen straps slightly

  • Check for rough edges (smooth with fine sandpaper)

  • Ensure proper fit without pressure points

  • Normal initial reaction

  • Use high-value treats to encourage movement

  • Practice indoors first in familiar environment

  • Keep sessions short and positive

Long-Term Success Tips

Consistency is Key

  • Use SnoutCover every time your dog goes outside

  • Don't skip sunny days

  • Maintain the routine even after nose improves

Monitor Progress

  • Take weekly photos of your dog's nose

  • Document improvements or changes

  • Adjust usage based on healing progress

  • Consult vet regularly

Gradual Reduction (If Appropriate)

Once your dog's nose has healed:

  • Continue UV protection on sunny days

  • May reduce to "as needed" with vet approval

  • Always have SnoutCover available for flare-ups

  • Never stop protection completely during summer

Expected Timeline

Week 1: Getting used to wearing it
Week 2–4: Comfortable with daily use
Month 2–3: Visible improvement in nose condition
Month 4–6: Significant or complete healing

Remember: Every dog is different. Some adapt quickly, others need more time. The key is patience and consistency.

Safety Reminders

✓ Never leave unsupervised for extended periods initially
✓ Always check fit before and after walks
✓ Remove if any signs of distress
✓ Consult vet if irritation occurs
